Greater Taree

The Taree Chapter represents residents of the Manning Valley, on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, located approximately three hours north of Sydney. The region covers an area of 3,752 sq km. The Valley is focussed around Taree, with the towns of Wingham, Old Bar, Harrington and Hallidays Point major population centres. Greater Taree, which includes all these centres has a population of approximately 48,000 residents including around 2,000 Indigenous citizens. Traditional custodians of country throughout the Manning Valley are Biripi people.

Taree Chapter is represented on the CMNC Inc Board by:

Chapters within the CMNC Inc structure (there are two others; Great Lakes and Port Macquarie-Hastings) all have a governance role in electing the three chapter representatives, who, along with the delegates from the other two chapters, constitute the Board of Management. These Directors then elect the Executive members of the Board and assign other tasks to Directors, as needed.

Administration staff are currently based in Port Macquarie and Great Lakes with an office in the Mac Adams Music Centre, Port Macquarie, TAFE in Taree, and Tuncurry Hall in Great Lakes.

Chapters have an active role in developing the CMNC’s interaction with community ensembles, as well as the provision of workshops and master classes . This interaction and collaboration with the existing music community is a feature of CMNC (see our Mission Statement, Home page) and is consequently a vital responsibility of each chapter.

Meetings of all Chapter members of the CMNC will be held from time to time to allow for direct involvement and input into the growth of CMNC.  A “Friends of the Con” group has been established in the Taree Chapter with others soon to follow in the other two chapters.
