From the Glasshouse:-
Hi Music Lovers,
A happy New Year to you all. It is hard to believe we are
almost at the end of January already!!
The Glasshouse are offering a Musical
Double Deal in February for Simon Tedeschi and Ian Cooper and
Elixir with Katie Noonan.
While in town, Simon and Ian will also be presenting a Masterclass on Sunday 12th February at 11am. This
is a great opportunity for local musicians to connect on a
professional level. Simon Tedeschi will demonstrate the principles of
piano tone, touch and technique while Ian Cooper will look as look at jazz improvisation as a spontaneous combination of composition and performance.
They’ll show the similarities and differences between classical and jazz;
the contrasting ways of understanding rhythm; how to perform under pressure;
and most importantly, how to have fun on stage! Any emerging or professional
musicians who would like to take up the opportunity of this class should call
the Glasshouse Box Office on 02 6581 8888 to book as limited places are
available.
I hope you get the chance to enjoy one or both of these great
musical performances. So often I hear that people are not finding out about
this things until it is too late so given your personal connection with local
artists, musicians and music lovers I am hoping you will help make sure those
that might enjoy don't miss out.

Does your technique need refining?

We
are busy on several fronts.
We
have had a very successful flute workshop. We are currently
organising a further three workshops. (Hopefully Terms three and
four). We are collecting the Semester, 2011 data from our tutors,
students & ensembles to support our late 2011 request to become a
'full' conservatorium within the Dept of Education and Community's
Regional Conservatorium Grants Program. We hope to be successful at
last and receive interim funding for 2012, to lead into the next 3
Year funding period.
The
other Chapters (Greater Taree & Great Lakes) are similarly
working at the data and application 2012 side of things. Taree is
involved in a grants request for support of visiting tutors to Public
Schools within an annual program at each school involved, as well as
a similar program at pre-school level. In Forster/Tuncurry the data
collection also proceeds apace and a special thrust for 2012 with
visiting tutors to schools is being developed.
Much
of the program grant work will be off the desk by Sept 30, along with
a major report to the Dept of E & C in Sydney. This will mean a
start to extensive consultation with schools and tutors on the nature
of musical activities to be worked on for delivery in 2013 &
out to '14/'15. Also within this time frame (Sept to Dec ’11) we
will be considering 2012 staffing to match delivery, along with
long-term significant special grant applications.
As
you can see we'll
be busy for the balance of 2011.
In
the meantime if you wish to experience some of the practical side of
the Con and are in the Port area, try the
"Friday Lunchtime Concerts"
at the Glasshouse 12:30 to 1:30. They are Free. You can actually
bring your lunch with you while you enjoy a changing array of local
artists.
Feel
free to tell friends. |

A new venue has been required for the CMNC Friday Lunchtime Concerts. The Historic Courthouse is to have substantial roof repairs carried during Term 3, with the facility being closed to the public whilst work is undertaken. Due to this the Lunchtime Concerts have had to search for a new performance space, some where in the Central Business Area. An absolutely first rate space has been made available to the Conservatorium, to be available from the start of Term 3 until the end of the Term 3 holidays in October. From Friday July the 22nd, the Conservatorium, with the support of the Glasshouse, will present the Friday Lunchtime Concerts in the Ross Family Studio at the Glasshouse. We are thrilled to be able to use this facility as the main performance space for this community performance program. Each Friday at 12.30 am a one hour concert will take place in the Ross Studio. You are able to bring your lunch with you, come when you are able and leave when you wish. A range of performers will be on stage, from Irish Band to solo singer, to student performers and onto singers in languages other than English. As when in the Old Courthouse, a gold coin donation will assist with publicity. So July 8 and 15 in the Historic Courthouse, then see you at the Glasshouse, Ross Family Studio. |

Last Friday saw yet another successful set of performances at the Historic Courthouse. A good sized audience almost filled the 'public gallery' to listen to several HSC students test themselves in an audience setting. Particularly lovely clarinet work from Alexandra who seemed at home on this stage. (And despite the bruised nicely accompanied by Carol Irving on piano.) The day finished with the pianists and Pirates of the Carribean took us out for the day. Thanks to all, especially Rhonda for so ably running the afternoon. |

Dear Members & Friends of CMNC,
As I'm sure most of you will understand, due to the bad weather and
flooding we have had to cancel the forthcoming concert, to be held this
Saturday June 18th, at the Manning Regional Gallery when CMNC was to
present the "Winterreise" in recital.
Our two artists, Graham & Hamish, have also cancelled
their performance the following day in Coffs Harbour as the Highway is
expected to remain closed for the next five days.
The concert will be rescheduled as soon as possible and all Members
& Friends will be advised accordingly. Those who have pre-purchased
tickets please contact me at this email address or by post (as
below) to arrange a refund.
Best wishes,
Michael Scott

Due to the exteme weather event being experienced by our area, it is unfortunate that CMNC Inc. must postpone it's AGM. The widespread flooding and road closures would make it extremely difficult for CMNC Inc. members to attend the meeting, scheduled for this evening at Johns River. To all those who are currently isolated, or who may have the unfortunate task of flood cleanup ahead, you are in our thoughts. Further advice will be posted and advertised both on the website and in local media. We apologise for any inconvenience this unavoidable cancellation may have caused. |
